Once upon a time, I watched Forrest Gump and thought that he was successful because of persistence. Then many years later, I think that his persistence was different from most people - he was bluntly sensitive. Sensitivity and bluntness are both determined by innate character, not skill, and are hard to pick up quickly. It takes constant practice to find the balance and be able to take it in and out of the way.
