Google Music Service is shutting down

Google Play Music (Google Music Service) is going to stop its service in December. Prior to the shutdown, Google will begin reducing the app's functionality and streaming music service. The first countries to cancel the streaming service are New Zealand and South Africa in September, with the rest of the world to follow in October.

By December, the service will shut down completely, after which users will not be able to transfer content. In addition, starting later this month, Google will no longer accept music purchases from within the Play Store.

In its announcement, Google said, "But don't worry, we'll keep your playlists, uploads, purchases, and favorites until December 2020, making it easier for you to move to YouTube Music."

By the end of this month, users will not be able to buy or pre-order music through Google's Music Management app, nor will they be able to upload or download music from the service. The search giant said users will need to switch to YouTube Music or use its delivery service to download music.

Google said: "For users who don't plan to switch their Google Play Music account to YouTube Music, we'll definitely cancel your subscription at the end of the billing cycle so you don't have to pay for your subscription."

It is understood that in May this year, Google started offering its Play Music customers the ability to switch to YouTube Music. During the process, features such as uploaded songs, purchases, personal and subscription playlists, likes and dislikes, curated radio stations and personal taste preferences changed.
